Nestled within the woods of Iowa on 6 acres of land, our creation process begins and ends on our family land. Surrounded by black walnut trees, oak trees, and old barns, much of our materials are pulled straight from the land. We saw, mill, and masterfully assemble every piece of wood that completes your next favorite piece of furniture. Whether you’re looking for live edge or a sleek modern design, Woods to Home will work with you to create what you're envisioning. Our goal is to make the design process, from start to finish, simple, easy, and enjoyable.
1. Design Consultation
Here is where we officially kick things off! We want to deliver on exactly what you're looking for, so this initial consultation is foundational in understanding your wants, needs, and goals. Whether you have a picture of a specific piece of furniture that you'd like us to replicate or have no idea at all and want our recommendations and guidance, we're here to help! We want you to leave this consultation with excitement about the project ahead.
2. Material & Color Selection
Next comes the selection of materials and color! This point in the process can be fairly quick or a bit longer depending on how much research you've done prior. If you already have an idea of the materials and color you'd like used, we can take that and run with it. Otherwise, based on what you're looking for, we'll offer a number of different materials including barn wood, black walnut, oak, poplar, metal and more. We can also give you paint and stain recommendations!
3. Review
After we've discussed your needs and goals in the initial consultation and have established the materials and paint or stain selection, we like to schedule one final review with you to ensure you're happy with all elements that will go into this project. At this point, we'll also provide you with a final and official cost. We want you to have a clear understanding of the cost of materials, assembly and labor, because the only surprise we want you to have is the furniture reveal itself! We'll also ask for half payment up front before we dive into the building phase.
4. Build
This is the fun part where your vision starts coming to life. Measurement by measurement, cut by cut, and nail by nail, we masterfully assemble every piece of your furniture. With a keen eye and attention to detail, we take pride in ensuring we're creating furnishings that you'll be proud to display in your home.
As you could anticipate, build times will vary based on the scope of project but this is something you'll have a general time frame on at the time of the final review. To keep you in the loop, we are always more than happy to send progress photos along the way as well!
5. The big Reveal
To us, this is the most exciting and rewarding part! We love to see the excitement on our client's faces when they first lay eyes on their new piece of furniture.
As far as where the 'big reveal' takes place, we welcome you to come pick it up in the woodshop if you're able. Otherwise, we can schedule a time for delivery to your home! Either way, we can't wait to get your new piece of furniture in your possession.
